WHY CHOOSE IPL HAIR REMOVAL?

IPL hair removal is a great option for long-term and large area removal and recommended by health professionals the world over. You’ll also need a minimum of 4 treatments. This is because each of the hairs on your body goes through three stages in its lifecycle, and you can only neutralise a hair in the active phase. At any one time only a maximum of 20% of the hairs on your body are in that phase, which is why you need at least 4 treatments. Once you’ve completed the treatment cycle you can look forward to a lifetime of smooth skin with only an occasional maintenance treatment. Compare that to the cost of a lifetime of waxing.

WHAT IS SQUARE PULSED LIGHT?

Patented in France and invented by doctors and scientists this advanced and computerised salon device filters out harmful ultraviolet light and infrared wavelengths ensuring a safe progressive hair removal system. When IPL is combined with our large spot size, treatments are fast, safe, virtually painless and cheaper than waxing.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Pulses of intense lamp light penetrate the skin and are absorbed by the melanin in the hair. The absorption heats the hair shaft and the energy is transmitted to the hair follicle. This results in the follicle being heated to a temperature of 70oC for a millisecond. The hair follicles are destroyed by each flash; the hairs then fall out in two to three weeks. All without damaging the surrounding tissue.

CAN ALL HAIR BE TREATED?

IPL’s unique design offers you customised treatments according to your hair colour, texture and body location. Any hair (black, brown, red, grey, white and even blonde) can be treated effectively. The new patented technology is specifically designed for the Adena™ Plus.

WHAT AREAS AND SKIN TYPES CAN BE TREATED?

Any areas of the face and body can be treated with pulse light. The darker the hair the richer in melanin and the better the result. The Adena™ Plus is the only machine in the world that also removes fine, white, blonde, grey and red hair.

DOES IT HURT?

For most people there is virtually no pain. The feeling of the treatment is extremely variable from one person to another, it depends on the concentration of melanin in the skin and the size and density of the hair.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

In most cases, there are no visible effects. Therefore the treatment does not interfere with normal activities. Redness could appear on the skin indicating successful treatment. Hair is detached from its nourishment but it still remains in its sheath during the renewal of the epidermis (peeling). A light exfoliation 10 to 15 days after the session can speed up the rate at which the hair falls out.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?

The Adena™ Plus can only treat hairs in the growth phase. Approximately 20% of all hairs are in their growth phase at any one time. Certain “resting” hairs can also become active due to age and hormonal modifications. Other factors include hair colour and thickness. Everyone is different and several (an average of 4) sessions may be needed. After that, only one or two annual maintenance sessions are recommended.

DOES IT GIVE PERMANENT RESULTS?

Yes! Most hair will not grow back at all whilst other hair may grow back thinner and lighter. The Adena™ Plus is the hair management system preferred by over 2000 salons and clinics worldwide. It provides lifetime results. You will wonder why you waited so long.

4-10 sessions are recommended every 6-8 weeks, depending on the hair growth cycle. Due to the nature of this treatment, an exact result cannot be predicted and we cannot guarantee results as they vary from person to person. Book your consultation today.
Please Note: blonde/white/grey/red hair IPL costs and timings differ to the above information. Light hair protocols dictate waxing prior to the delivery of IPL treatments for optimal results. Ask your Accent on NouVeau Specialist for further information during your consultation.

Waxing

WHAT AREA’S CAN YOU WAX?

We can wax any area, apart from top of the head, mens beard or moustache.

HOW LONG OR SHORT, SHOULD MY HAIR BE FOR WAXING?

The hair should be at least 3mm to 4mm for best results. If you have coarse hair it should be closer to 4mm for the first few waxes. Once the hair becomes finer it can be waxed at a shorter length.

It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact that hair grows in stages and all of your hair is never at the same stage. It is very important to avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth again.

At Accent on NouVeau we use the best waxes, so you don’t have to wait for your hair to be to long between services.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY WAXING TREATMENT?

Every 4/5 weeks depending on the area. Regular waxing is essential. The skin will be less sensitive if waxing is done regular. Over time with regular waxing, the hair follicle will have less and less of a grip on the hair to be pulled and the hairs will come out more easily.

Another reason to wax frequently is that you may even experience less hair growth over time.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD DO BEFORE MY WAXING APPOINTMENT?

Yes.

  • Refrain from taking a shower or bath immediately before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective.
  • Make sure the hair is the appropriate length for waxing. See How long, or short, should my hair be for waxing?
  • Make sure that the area(s) to be waxed are clean.
  • Take some panadol before treatment just to help your muscles relax.
    • There are certain medications and products that should not be taken or used if you plan to have a waxing treatment soon. Topical exfoliants used on the area to be waxed such as Retin-A, Renova, and hydroquinone, oral acne medications such as Accutane, blood-thinning medications, and topical/oral cortisone make the skin more sensitive and increase the likelihood of irritation or other complications. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure whether you should be waxed while on or using a medication.

WILL I GET INGROWN HAIRS?

It's possible.

Waxing removes the entire hair, root and all, from the follicle. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area gently exfoliated. Use a loofah glove in that area about 2 days after waxing and continue to exfoliate 1 to 2 times a week thereafter.

Try to wear loose-fitting clothes for a few days after to give your skin a chance to breathe and reduce moisture.

The bikini, lip and underarms are where we tend to perspire the most. Perspiration and moisture cause bacteria to grow. Once that area has been waxed, the follicle is wide open to this bacteria creeping in.

Try to avoid heavy exercise that will increase perspiration and chaffing for about 24-48 hours after waxing.

HOW CAN I PREVENT INGROWN HAIRS?

For the next 24-48 hours avoid on the waxed areas:

  • use of exfoliating products (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products, loofahs, scrubs, etc.)
  • direct sun exposure and tanning beds
  • creams with fragrance or ingredients that may irritate
  • deodorant: it results in irritation and clogging of open follicles
  • wearing tight clothing: results in irritation and inflammation
  • excessive heat, such as that from hot tubs and saunas. Warm showers are okay.
  • exercise, if it may cause chaffing or sweating
  • touching the freshly waxed area: this encourages irritation

After 24-48 hours, regular exfoliation with a loofah or exfoliating glove will help keep skin soft and prevent ingrown hairs.

Apply an SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to any exposed treatment areas. Since waxing exfoliates as well as removing hair, your skin will be more prone to sunburn in the days following your treatment.

WHAT WAX’S SHOULD BE USED?

There are so many type of wax’s that it is important to make sure that the wax that is being used is good quality wax. At Accent on NouVeau we source the best wax’s from all around the world and all of our wax’s can be used on the most sensitive area, we used both strip and hot wax, so our clients have the best results.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR ANY OF THE WAXING SERVICES?

We will wax clients of any age, but if you are younger than 16 we do require a parent to accompany you to sign our waxing consent form. The only service that you must be 16 years of age or older is for the Brazilian wax.

WHAT’S A BRAZILAN WAX?

A Brazilian was is the removal of all of the pubic hair, front and back using wax. Some opt to have a small shape left in the front. This shape may be a small strip or something more fun like a heart.

HOW DO I BENEFIT FROM WAXING?

Waxing reduces hair growth when performed at every 4/5 weeks. While shaving crops the hair at the skin’s surface, waxing pulls it out by the root, so it grows back softer, finer & thinner. Waxing is great for those who are tired of the hassle of shaving several times per week. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.

If you are a bride or attending a special occasion I recommend receiving waxing services a month before your special day to see how your skin reacts. If everything is fin, reschedule another wax a few days before the event.

CAN I SHAVE BETWEEN WAXING APPOINTMENTS?
No.
Please do not shave between waxing appointments! It disrupts the hair growth cycle resulting in more hair at your next appointment

WILL WAXING MAKE MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER/STRONGER/DARKER?

Absolutely not.

Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse.

When hair is shaved, it is cut off at the thick part of the hair, which is why you can feel stubble the next day. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root, and when the hair starts to grow back it is a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble.

The only things known to stimulate hair growth are hormones: natural or artificial.

Spray Tans

WILL SPRAY TAN PROTECT ME FROM GETTING SUNBURN?

No! When going into the sun, you must wear sun protection.

The only way it will help to protect you is that you will not be tempted to sun bake since you will have your tan already.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO TO ASSURE THAT I GET THE BEST SPRAY TAN?

Absolutely.

  • One of the most important things that you must do is to thoroughly exfoliate before spray tanning. The shallower the dead skin layer on the surface of your skin, the more time it will take for this layer to build up before it starts rubbing off. That means the better the exfoliation, the more even your tan will be throughout it's life and the longer it will last.
  • Of course it is just as vital to moisturize every day after spray tanning to keep your skin from drying out and exfoliating prematurely.
  • Shave the day of the spray tan or even better if waxing 24 hour prior to spray tan
  • Wear lose clothing

HOW LONG WILL THE TAN LAST?

Depending on how well you prepare, and take care of your spray tan afterwards, about 5-10 days. If you tan regularly, your skin will get used to the spray, and will hold the colour longer. Then you might need a top up every 2 weeks or so.

HOW SOON AFTER THE SPRAY TAN CAN I SHOWER?

Leave it on for at least 2-8 hours your spray tan specialist will advise.

MY LAST SPRAY TAN WAS DIFFERENT THAN THE PREVIOUS ON, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS DONE IN THE SAME SALON.

Again, it comes down to your skin. Your skin is a living thing, and is affected by many things like: time of the month, season, food you eat, stress, medication you take etc. If your tan is different, even though solution used was the same, the most probable cause is the condition of your skin.

Lash Perming / Lash Tiniting

CAN I WEAR MASCARA OR EYE MAKE UP PRIOR TO MY APPOINTMENT?
No.  Remove the eye make up with non-oily cleanser or eye make up remover, ensuring lids and lashes are thoroughly cleansed and dry, otherwise rods will not adhere to the lids.

CAN I WEAR MY CONTACT LENSES IN MY APPOINTMENT?
Yes!

CAN I WEAR MASCARA AFTER THE PERM/TINT?
Yes of course!  I do not recommend water-proof  mascara and the use of mascara remover, they tend to weaken the perm.

WHAT SHOULD I USE FOR CLEANING MY FACE AFTER THE LASH PERM/LASH TINT?
Use mild cleansers only. I recommend NIMUE CLEANSER is the best face cleanser.

HOW LONG WILL THE EYELASH PERM APPOINTMENT TAKE?
About 20-30 minutes depends on how long and coarse the eyelashes are.

CAN I GET AN EYELASH TINT AFTER THE EYELASH PERM IN THE SAME APPOINTMENT?
Yes!  Immediately after!  So make a plan to stay around 30-45 minutes for this appointment.

HOW LONG WILL THE CURL LAST/LASH TINT?
The eyelash perm last will last from 4-8 Weeks, eye lash tint last 3-5 weeks.

WILL I LOSE ANY OF MY LASHES BECAUSE OF THE PERM?
No.  However, it is perfectly normal to lose one or two eyelashes daily.  It happens to all of us!  New eyelashes will grow in place of old ones.  Actually, using the eyelash curler  daily will cause the eyelashes to fall.

DOES THE EYELASH PERM HURT?
No.

WILL I HAVE SKIN IRRITATION OR REACTION?
Very few people had some skin reactions, puffiness reaction or burning on their eyelids the next day.  Cold compresses for few minutes will do the trick!

If you have never had a tint with us before we will do a test on you first to make sure you will not have a reaction.
